Job Description

Data Protection Officer - Fixed Term Contract 12 Months

An experienced Data Protection Officer is required for a 12 month fixed term contract in Central London. The role is working for an organisation that provides an integral service to the UK Financial Services and it is important that the organisation maintains high standards of Data Protection.

In this role the Data Protection Officer will be responsible for developing and improving the organisations awareness of, and compliance with, current Data Protection laws and to help prepare for the implementation of the General Data Protection Directive.

The Data Protection Officer will be responsible for developing policies and procedures on Data Protection and a strategy to ensure compliance with those policies and procedures.

The Data Protection Officer will complete and maintain a data mapping exercise to ensure the organisation knows at all times what personal data it is handling as well as managing the handling of personal data by the organisations suppliers, and ensuring that contracts are compliant with Data Protection Laws. In this role you will also assist with investigations into complaints about breaches of Data Protection Laws and undertaking reporting/ remedial action as required and constantly being aware of up-coming changes to Data Protection Laws.

Key Skills and experience for the Data Protection Officer:

The Data Protection Officer will need a strong understanding of the law and the regulations that govern Data Protection. You must be technologically savvy and understand the systems that protect and process data but also have a strong business sense in order to create and role out training programs and investigate potential breaches. Ideally you will come from a financial services background or have worked in a blue-chip organisation in your recent roles.
